Our local farm offered to teach us how to farm our own animals for meat – however we are not at the point where we can kill animals and have a happy feast at home after.
We still would like to know where the meat products for our family come from and how they were raised. The best balanced option that we came up with is to join a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) subscription for a farm that harvests meat.
Here are the steps we took :
- We found a farm that is 30 minutes away from us that offers meat packages at a reasonable price (the price had to balance out to the same amount of money or less than what we spend at the grocery store monthly)
- The CSA package that worked for us (a family of 4) is the 25 pounds a month. So depending on what they harvest that month our box will be filled with different cuts of meat totaling 25Ibs per month
- Signed up for the subscription – 1st pick up is the day we used to take our normal grocery trip (the farm also offers delivery but we prefer to pick it up)
