More money can provide basic security and peace of mind when basic needs such as food, water, and shelter are considered. The process of building yourself up from the bottom provides a sense of pride and accomplishment.

Depends on your point of reference. If you’re around people who constantly obtain things, your happiness may depend on how much you have compared to them. You can earn a lot of money compared to most but if it’s not more than the people around you; your emotional well being could suffer. Constant exposure to social media could also have a negative impact on your level of happiness because your reference point is full of filters and unrealistic measures.
Once you have basic needs, money has little to no impact on your happiness without references. If you want to increase your level of happiness – consider changing what you measure yourself against.
